  1. 01Understanding the AlgorithmsWe’ll kick off the series by taking a deep dive into the inner workings of the YouTube algorithm - demystifying how it surfaces content, drives discovery, and shapes audience engagement.

    You’ll learn how to strategically position YouTube within your wider creative ecosystem, whether you’re juggling multiple platforms or transitioning from more traditional media. By the end of this session, you’ll have a stronger grasp of how the platform operates and how to leverage it intentionally as part of your broader content strategy.
  2. 02Mastering your FormatIn this Masterclass, you’ll learn how to navigate YouTube’s content landscape by understanding its taxonomy, developing effective content strategies, and exploring proven video formats that drive success.

    You’ll gain practical tools to ideate for online video and discover how to adapt your existing traditional content for digital audiences. This session is designed to inspire you and give you the confidence to create compelling, audience-driven content.
  3. 03Optimise your Content RevenueThe final Masterclass ties everything together, guiding you through a range of monetisation opportunities both on and off YouTube. From ad revenue and brand deals to memberships, products, and off-platform income, you’ll learn how to turn your content into a sustainable business.

    This session will help you clarify where YouTube fits within your wider distribution and revenue strategy, so you can focus your energy on making it a reliable income stream.
  4. 04Make the ConnectionBeyond the Masterclasses themselves, this program is a unique opportunity to connect directly with industry leaders from Screen Tasmania, Changer, YouTube, as well as hear firsthand insights from successful creators running top-performing channels.

    Whether you’re looking for inspiration, guidance, or long-term creative partnerships, this program is designed to spark meaningful connections and accelerate your growth.

Program Requirements

In order to apply for the Masterclass Series you will need to meet some minimum requirements.

  • You must be able to demonstrate a commitment to on-going content creation and have produced and published content previously. This may be demonstrated with examples of content made and published by you. Examples could be short films, webseries, YouTube series, docos, animation, TV, feature film, etc.
  • Individual participants must be current Tasmanian residents having resided permanently in the state for at least the previous 6 months
  • Teams must include current Tasmanian residents having resided permanently in the state for at least the previous 6 months

  • Individuals must be an Australian citizen or Permanent Resident, aged 18 or over
  • Applicants must meet Screen Tasmania’s general eligibility requirements as set out in its Terms of Trade

If you don't meet these requirements you may still apply, however you will need to outline why you feel you could benefit from the program in your submission.

What to expect

The Masterclass series will take place in-person across the following dates in Hobart:

  • 18th July
  • 15th August
  • 12th September

The workshops will be full-day experiences running from around 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM.

Each Masterclass will be an opportunity for learnings, discussions, and connecting with your Hobart creator community.
